Top 5 Non-Sticky, Non-Greasy Hair Growth Serums in India

The short answer: A hair growth serum feels sticky or leaves your scalp oily because of its vehicle, the liquid base carrying the actives, not the actives. Almost every serum sold in India runs on the same few actives, so what separates them on feel is the base, the dose and the applicator. The awkward finding here is that only two of the five below publish a full ingredient list, and without one you cannot judge how a serum will feel before you buy it.

Enagen Bio Octapep hair growth scalp serum

How these five were judged

Everything was read off each brand's own product page on 20 August 2026. What we did not do is test them. We have not measured absorption, run a residue test, or compared how any two feel on a scalp. Nobody publishes that data, and inventing it is how most "top 5" articles get written.

Five things decide how a serum feels: vehicle disclosure, texture, dose control and applicator, absorption and residue, and timeline honesty. Nobody publishes absorption or residue data, so nobody below is scored on it.

So this is not a ranking by feel. It is ordered by how much of the vehicle each brand discloses, because the vehicle is the answer to a stickiness question and disclosure is the only part a buyer can verify. That puts two competitors above our own product, and we are leaving it that way.

Why do hair growth serums feel sticky or make the scalp oily?

The formulation reason is the vehicle. The best-documented illustration is topical minoxidil, a prescription drug EnagenBio does not sell and is not comparing itself to. It is here only because its vehicle is documented. Gogtay and Panda record that "propylene glycol was found to be the agent most frequently responsible for allergic contact dermatitis", with irritation in "approximately 7% of patients who use the 2% solution" and more at 5% (Int J Trichology 2009;1(2):142). More glycol, not more drug. A foam version was then built without it, its selling point purely physical: "within 20 to 30 seconds, little or no residue remains on the skin." Same active, different feel, entirely because of what it was dissolved in.

The scalp reason gets misread as a product failure. Curly and wavy hair runs an oily scalp alongside a dry fibre: "curly and wavy hair they are more prone to have oily scalp but dryer hair fiber" (Gavazzoni Dias, Int J Trichology 2015;7(1):2-15). Some of the oiliness you blame on the serum was already there.

The five serums

1. Minimalist Hair Growth Actives 18%

Actives: Capixyl 5% + Redensyl 3% + Procapil 3% + Anagain 3% + Baicapil 4%.

Vehicle disclosure: full. The published list begins water, butylene glycol, propanediol, dimethyl isosorbide, glycerin, ethoxydiglycol. No denatured alcohol and no propylene glycol, though it contains PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, a solubiliser. Dropper, "a few drops daily on clean, dry scalp". It is first not because we think it feels best, but because it is the only serum here that tells you its entire base.

2. The Derma Co 20% Actives Peptide-Stem Cell Hair Growth Serum

Vehicle disclosure: full. Published list begins aqua, butylene glycol, then botanical extracts, with PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil and ethoxydiglycol later. Again, no denatured alcohol and no propylene glycol.

Applicator is a spray, the most interesting thing here. It covers a wide area fast, which suits diffuse thinning, but it is the hardest format to dose precisely and the likeliest to land product on hair rather than scalp. The page calls the texture "lightweight" and "non-greasy". Actives: 9% Foligen Analupe, 4% Anagain, 3% Copper Peptide, plus Redensyl and Root Biotech. Cheapest per bottle, second most transparent.

3. EnagenBio Octapep Hair Growth Scalp Serum

This is ours, and it sits third on our own criterion.

Published actives: Redensyl 3%, caffeine, Procapil 3%, Capilia Longa 1%, Cressatine, Panax ginseng root, with propanediol and pentylene glycol as penetration enhancers.

Vehicle disclosure: partial. The actives are published with percentages and two base solvents named. A complete ingredient list in order is not published on the product page, and it should be. By our own first criterion that places Octapep behind both serums above it. Neither propylene glycol nor denatured alcohol is among the named base ingredients.

Dose control is the best in this set: a pump with a stated dose, 1 ml, four pumps, to the scalp, twice daily. No other serum here publishes a dose in millilitres, and over-application is the commonest cause of a sticky scalp.

The approved claims, and the only ones EnagenBio makes, are that it supports healthier hair growth, helps reduce hair fall, is a peptide-based formulation, and is lightweight for twice-daily use. Absorption and residue: we have not measured either and will not state a number.

On price, plainly: at ₹1,620 for 56 ml it is the most expensive bottle here and the largest. Per millilitre it is around ₹29, against roughly ₹14 for ThriveCo and ₹20 for The Derma Co. It is the most expensive per millilitre in this comparison. If price is your deciding factor, that is your answer, and you did not need us to dress it up.

4. ThriveCo Hair Growth Serum 2.0

Named actives: Redensyl, Anagain, Procapil and Capilia Longa, a very similar set to Octapep's.

Vehicle disclosure: actives only. No full ingredient list on the page, so the base cannot be assessed, a real gap on this article's central question. The page does not say whether the formula is oil-free or fast-absorbing, and we are not filling that in from elsewhere. Dropper. The page carries the strongest marketing furniture in the set: "India's Most Researched. Clinically Proven", "31 Clinical Trials", "1.5x hair growth in 8 weeks". Those are the brand's claims, quoted as claims; we have not reviewed the trials. Best value per millilitre, roughly ₹14.

5. Pilgrim 3% Redensyl, 4% Anagain & 5% Capilia Stem Cell Complex Advanced Hair Growth Serum

Actives: 3% Redensyl, 4% Anagain, 5% Capilia Stem Cell Complex, plus "12+ Advanced Hair Growth Boosters". Also a 25 ml roll-on.

Vehicle disclosure: actives only. No full list and no texture statement on the page, so both are recorded as not stated rather than guessed. The roll-on is the most controlled way to get liquid onto scalp rather than hair.

The timelines are where it stands out. The page states "New Hair Growth in 28 Days" and "Reduces Hairfall in 14 Days". Those are the brand's claims. Fourteen days is the fastest claim here by a wide margin, and we would ask what was measured.

What the table tells you

Two things, and neither is "buy ours". Redensyl at 3% appears in four of five, so the actives are near-interchangeable and the base, the dose and the applicator decide whether you stay on a serum for three months.

One: three of five brands, including ours, do not publish a full ingredient list. That is the finding we did not expect to be writing. If a brand will not show you the base, it cannot honestly claim to be non-greasy, because the base is the greasiness. Our own omission is flagged internally to fix, not left out of the table.

Two: the timeline claims range from 14 days to 90 days for the same class of product. That spread cannot be explained by formulation. Hair grows on the follicle's cycle and no topical shortens it. The 90-day end is the conservative one, and it is the one we stand behind.

What to expect, and when

For hair growth, EnagenBio's approved window is 90 days, as individual experience and not as a promise. It is the longest window in the table above, deliberately.

Two honest notes. If you have seen four weeks or 28 days attached to Octapep anywhere, including a marketplace or reseller listing, that is not our approved window and should not be relied on. And a hair growth serum cannot address a medical cause of hair loss on its own. If your hair loss came on suddenly, in patches, or with scalp symptoms, see a dermatologist before you buy any serum.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best non-sticky hair growth serum in India?

On what can be verified, Minimalist and The Derma Co are the only two publishing enough of their formula to judge before buying. On dose control, Octapep's 1 ml pump is the most precise. Nobody, us included, can tell you which feels best on your scalp, because none of us has published that test.

Which of these should I actually buy?

If price decides it, ThriveCo is cheapest per millilitre. If transparency decides it, Minimalist or The Derma Co. If precise dosing decides it, ours. Different answers to different questions, and anyone telling you there is one winner has not read the labels.

Not medical advice. This is educational and editorial, not a diagnosis or treatment plan. A serum cannot address a medical cause of hair loss. If yours came on suddenly, in patches, or with scalp symptoms, see a dermatologist.

Sources. The two papers are listed above, each opened on the date stated. Every price, active, dose and timeline attributed to another brand was read off that brand's own page on 20 August 2026 and is given as that brand's claim, never as fact. Where a page is silent we say so rather than filling the gap: ThriveCo and Pilgrim publish no full ingredient list and no texture statement, and EnagenBio publishes no full ingredient list in order, named in the article as a defect of ours. Nobody publishes absorption or residue data. We have not tested these products.

Results. For hair growth EnagenBio's approved window is 90 days, as individual experience and never as a guarantee. Any shorter figure attached to Octapep, four weeks or 28 days included, is not our approved window.
